The reason Damon doesn’t believe her is because of the past. He will never believe her (or realistically shouldn’t) until it is addressed. They don’t have to rehash it all, but it is the elephant in the room that is slowly killing them. Something like this would work:

“I was afraid of what I felt for you, and what that meant about me. I felt like I owed it to Stefan to try because I never unfell for him. It was the right thing to do. And we didn’t work out because of who we are, not because of you. When I was being haunted by Connor, I faced things I had been running from and accepted things. I am not afraid anymore. Of who I am. Of what I want. Of what other people think. I know what I want and who I want and that is you. And, it isn’t because of some bond, it’s because of how you make me feel. You make me feel happy, and free and like life can be fun and unpredictable. You make me feel loved and I know you won’t ever turn your back on me and leave. You’re here with me. I trust you. I don’t always agree with you, but I respect you. And you trust and respect me, even if you don’t always agree with me. And when I’m with you, all I can think about and want is you. You consume me, and that happened long before I turned. When we first met, you told me that I want a love that consumes me, passion, adventure and a little bit of danger. You were right. That’s what I wanted. And it’s what I have with you. And I know that’s real. It was real before the bond and it will be real after it is gone.”

Or something. Damon needs reasons, not “I just know.”

so, the vampire diaries contains foreshadowing and a hell lot of parallels.

okay, saying that; remember when john said in his letter that he has always loved elena, even whether she is human or vampire.. well damon said basically the same thing but john died.. so what if what he said foreshadows damons death.. i really hope not; i don’t know what i would do if damon died.. omg no.
